Exploring the Depths of the Crucifixion

Many of us were raised Christian.   If you are Catholic, or were at one time, you practiced the sacred rite of the Eucharist, consuming the body and blood of Jesus –an aspect of “The Pascal Mystery”.

For some Christians, the story of Jesus seems childish and has no significance in our lives anymore. For others, there lingers a part of us that still believes, but consider the topic of god/man, death and resurrection too perplexing to wander into.  And for others, the history of Jesus is the total concrete reality that we live and die for with unquestioning and unwavering devotion.  But to a small few, the life/story of Jesus and in particular, the crucifixion has been a spiritual quest to peel back the onion, to go deeper beyond the blind belief, symbology, and or the historical facts about this man’s life. There is something there that is not being said, perhaps because……… it can’t be said!

Through a critical historic eye, the life of Jesus has been, in many ways an ancient motif, a story line that has been in effect throughout the history of mankind. When looked at with a wide open lens, unconditioned by those who have material gain, free from our own prejudices, and biases we can get any glimpse of the ultimate realities that lie beneath such recorded histories/stories. The question is, what do we lose and what do we gain by doing so? The answer has always been, more than we can ever dream!

Please join me for an evening while we explore together this “sacred mystery” so that each of us can discover something new, not so much about Christianity, but about ourselves, by allowing this simple process of heartfelt exploration to revitalize our own spiritual lives.
